One of the sculptures in the New Orleans City Park Sculpture Garden is this rather mystifying piece. It consists of a ladder leading up to a window that is set in part of a brick wall that is suspended in mid-air with no visible meaning of support.
I guess there are posts buried deep in the ground and attached to the ladder which holds up the window.
